Sciatica and stenosis
If you want to get rid of sciatica and stenosis now, you’re in the right place.
Stenosis is a condition that develops from a variety of causes. Simply, a narrowing of the vertebral or foraminal canal can press on the nerve, resulting in pain.
This narrowing can occur for a variety of reasons – loss of disc height, forward or rearward sllppage of a vertebrae, osteophyte formation, a disc bulge or a space-occupying lesion.
This narrowing can also result in sciatic symptoms, however sciatica has a number of causes. This is why being diagnosed with “sciatica” is completely pointless. Sciatic pain from a disc injury requires different rehabilitation to that from stenosis, muscular causes or a spondyolisthesis, which is why there is no one best exercise tor treatment to fix sciatica.
Dr Stuart McGill, the world’s foremost spinal researcher, has also proven that sciatica can result from instability. A scan may show a disc bulge at the L4-L5 level for instance, but instability at the joint above may be the true cause of sciatic pain, and only thorough assessment will reveal the true cause of sciatic pain.
Most people with sciatica will have the issue from disc-related pathology, but knowing the cause behind the disc dysfunction is more important than saying the disc is the source of sciatic pain.

it's time to get your life back
Stenosis and sciatica can manifest in a variety of ways, which is why accurate assessment is vital.
Previous movement habits and muscle weakness, as well as inappropriate loading are the usual causes. The vertebral and foraminal canals tend to narrow slightly with aging, but there are nearly always solutions to the problem.
Dysfunctional movement and motor patterns may be simply habit, or the result of mobility restrictions and previous or current injury. Either way, both faults can be treated and result in sciatica being a thing of the past.
How we fix sciatica and stenosis
A thorough history and assessment will reveal mechanisms of injury, which can include poor movement patterns, dysfunctional motor patterns, muscle weakness, mobility restrictions, perturbed postures and inappropriate loads.
Rehabilitation focuses on first removing the pain-causing motions, postures and loads, developing appropriate core stability, restoring correct motor patterns, teaching better movement patterns, addressing mobility issues, and then building focused strength and proprioception.
There is no one best exercise for sciatica or stenosis. Whilst some exercises are common in the beginning, the best treatment for sciatica and stenosis is individualised.

failure isn't an option
There is no such thing as non-specific back pain. Accurate assessment provides an accurate diagnosis, and the rehabilitation plan going forward.
Machine-based training and other systems fail to account for faulty movement patterns, strengthen the body with unnatural movements, fail to allow for nervous system control and ultimately fail when demand exceeds capacity.
At Functional Low Back rehab, returning to your favourite activities and sports is a benchmark for success.

Machine-based training is everywhere claiming the best results for treating lower back pain. for some people, it might work, but it is more likely to aggravate the condition further, and will never future-proof your body for some simple reasons.

A slipped disc is a common but inaccurate diagnosis. Discs can herniate, but true herniation is rare. Terminology matters, as it relates to professionalism and rehabilitation.
